The Blog Formerly Known As Practical Paralegalism
MELBORNE, FLORIDA, January 7, 2010/BPA Press Release — Brevard Paralegal Association (“BPA”), a local affiliate of the Paralegal Association of Florida, Inc., held its Holiday Social on December 17, 2009, at Tuscany Grill, in Melbourne, Florida. The social offered BPA’s membership and area attorneys an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments during the past year. Local attorneys attending were Michael Kahn, Esquire, Louis Jiannine, Esquire, Brevard Community College (“BCC”) professor, and Charles Thurston, Esquire, of Brevard County Legal Aid. The social also provided the perfect venue to showcase two of BPA’s brightest stars by awarding its 2009 Scholarships. Ashley King, who is currently enrolled in the paralegal program at BCC, was awarded a $500.00 Scholarship to continue her studies at BCC. Jamie Shreffler, a BCC paralegal program graduate, was awarded the “Roseann Nelson, CP” Professional Development Scholarship. Ms. Shreffler is currently employed as a legal assistant at Michael Kahn, P.A. Roma Molinaro, CP, FRP, Education/Scholarship chair, presented the awards to Ms. King and Ms. Shreffler.
Roseann Nelson, CP was a founding member of BPA and the long time paralegal to Leonard Spielvogel, Esquire. Ms. Nelson exemplified the professionalism required to be a successful paralegal and was a great mentor to all members of Brevard County’s legal community, in particular its paralegals. Mr. Spielvogel, wanting to honor his paralegal after her untimely passing, endowed a scholarship to BPA to be maintained in Ms. Nelson’s name. The “Roseann Nelson, CP” Professional Development Scholarship was established to encourage chapter members to attain the CP, ACP, or CFLA designation, through the National Association of Legal Assistant (“NALA”) and the Paralegal Association of Florida, Inc. (“PAF”).
From the time of its formation in 1991, BPA has supported the needs of paralegals and paralegal students here on the Space Coast by providing a local forum for networking and continuing legal education. For more information, please contact Cathleen M. Cummings, FRP at 321‑725‑7575.
