The Blog Formerly Known As Practical Paralegalism
Toronto police arrested Andrew Smith, who allegedly defrauded his victims by pretending to offer legal services as a paralegal. The Law Society of Upper Canada does not recognize Mr. Smith as a paralegal. The charges include three counts of “mischief.” The fake paralegal used Craigslist.org to advertise his “assistance,” which included taking his clients’ money and original documents. See The Toronto Sun.
The morals of this story: Beware of mischievous “paralegals” and carefully vet any services advertised on the Internet.
