Former Paralegal Creates Popular Online Budgeting Site

Brent Hunsberger, personal finance columnist and blogger at “It’s Only Money” rated former paralegal Marc Hedlund’s online money management site Wesabe as his favorite in his article “How online money management sites stack up.”

Wesabe: Get to Know Your Money, a popular budgeting site, helps its users (“Wesabeans”) make good financial decisions, improve their personal finances and benefit each other as a community with “collective intelligence.” The site has gotten excellent reviews from many sources, including Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, The Wall Street Journal and Reader’s Digest. The site even has its own Twitter feed.

Mr. Hunsberger praises the free site:

My pick? Wesabe, and not just because it was co-founded by Reed College graduate and ex-Tonkin Torp paralegal Marc Hedlund. Unlike the others, it gathered my credit union and all other essential accounts and allowed me to budget expenses for free (Fees for advanced features are in the works, Hedlund says). Buxfer might’ve gotten my bizz, but I don’t want to pay to budget. Mint might get it if it ever can automatically access my credit union or would allow manual uploads.

Mr. Hedlund is Chief Product Officer for Wesabe and a blogger/author at Wheaties for Your Wallet. He worked as a paralegal when he graduated from college and wryly recounts his war with the firm copier at OnJava.com.
