The Blog Formerly Known As Practical Paralegalism
Susan West is an experienced bankruptcy legal assistant and custom cake baker who dreams of being a pastry chef. While seeking a new job in the legal field due to her employer’s pending retirement, she stumbled upon Atlanta 11 Live TV’s promotion “What’s Your Dream Job” and filled out the accompanying form – saying she wants to be the White House Pastry Chef.
The TV station couldn’t get her a gig at the White house, but on July 2, West spent the day with Four Seasons Hotel Executive Chef Robert Gerstenecker. She helped create “a chocolate Coca-Cola sponge cake covered with chocolate ganache, a whipped delight used for icing and filling on the finest pastries.”
“It was the best chocolate cake I’ve ever eaten, and I love chocolate, and I’ve sampled it everywhere,” West says. “It was fabulous and the TV people and Chef
Gerstenecker were great to be around. It was the best cooking experience I’ve ever had.”
West has a great attitude and said, “”I love the legal work and love what I do. But that day of baking at the Four Seasons? That wasn’t work. It was just fabulous.”
It sounds like any law firm would be lucky to have West, who also worked for 10 years at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. That she makes amazing cakes is a wonderful bonus.
