Legal Assistant Helps Bust Bumbling Burglars on Tape

Tom Nelson, a legal assistant with the Law Offices of Mark S. Nelson, in Modesto, California, may get employee of the year for helping local police track down several people suspected of breaking into the law firm not once, but twice.

Of course, the suspects’ own ineptitude also contributed greatly to their identification.

The first time the law firm was broken into a few weeks ago, the thieves tried to steal the security camera – while it was on. The camera kept rolling, even as one frustrated fellow took a hammer to it.

Nelson suggested submitting the raw video from the first burglary to the local news outlet, The Bee, which published it on its website. You can view it here. The footage of the suspects’ faces is so clear that both were identified, and one was arrested.

Burglars must not keep up with local news, because last Friday, another set of thieves broke into the law firm again – and again were caught on tape.

The firm is adding more detectors, and Nelson hopes that publication of the second video results in the thieves’ capture.
