Paralegal Career Dressing: I Don’t Wanna Talk About It

Paralegal Career Dressing: I Don’t Wanna Talk About It

Oh, boy, this day, it was a long one, with extreme ups and downs. Let’s just leave it at that, and thank God it’s Friday Eve. I did have a lovely Cosmopolitan and Thai food with the Absent Minded Professor tonight, but going to Walmart afterwards kinda killed the buzz.

I bought these mustard-colored jeans on sale at Loft before the self-imposed shopping ban. I wore them today, because I am not supposed to wear jeans to present at the corporate legal department’s retreat tomorrow. Which is kind of like waving red jeans at a bull, but I’m all about respecting other peeps’ dress codes. They volunteered cropped pants are fine, but I’m fairly sure they are hoping I don’t show up in the zebra ones tomorrow.

The breeze did not do nice things to my hair.
Max Studio blazer ~ thrifted
Loft skinny jeans ~ on sale
Loft white tank ~ on sale
Lia Sophia convertible necklace ~ friend’s party last year
XAppeal Zeena wedges ~ Rack Room
Yellow hinged bracelet (my fave in the whole world)  ~ Kohl’s on sale
Miscellaneous bangles from Loft sets broken up

My light top and blazer did not fair well in this shot, but I really likes the mustard hogging the show.

I probably should have added at least four more bangles, darn it.

Finally, Dear Hubby’s cat, Tux, expressed his displeasure at the flavor o’ canned food served today. To say he was pissed is really putting it very mildly.

I know I’ve asked this before, but I have lots of new readers (hey, all y’all!). Can you wear denim anything to work?

  1. Lovelovelove the yellow on you. The yellow jeans and strappy shoes help elevate the jacket to a whole new level of chic. Also how do you roll your jeans so perfectly!

Hee cute Tux! He reminds me of the late Gomez. <3 Extremely fussy eater.

  2. I just recently bought those same jeans. Then, I went back a few days later and bought them in three more colors because I love the fit so much. You look great in yours!

  3. Poor kitty cat, but he really does not look happy. We cannot wear denim AT ALL. No way. I work at home, but occasionally have to go into the office and obey the dress code. I tend to not have trouble with it though, because I don't wear denim much. Not that I don't like it; I just don't usually wear it.

PS — May your Friday turn into a lovely weekend!!

  4. Hi! Newish reader here! I'm starting a new job next week and was told during the interview that denim, flip flops, tank tops (basically whatever you feel like wearing) are all just fine. Having worked in pretty formal environments most of my career, this sounds pretty awesome but I don't know if I'll ever be able to relax my internal dress code to jeans and a tank top. =)

I've worked at firms where casual Friday meant jeans (or sweats, shudder), but most of them considered khakis or cropped pants (only if worn with stockings) casual because they were not appropriate for the rest of the week.

Love your blog, BTW! You're so colorful!

  5. I'm in love with my mustard Loft pants too! Such a great color to play with and so many colors will coordinate nicely with it. The nice thing about them is that they are not a heavy denim. More of a well constructed cotton and the lycra content in them is perfection.

    You look fab in them!

    Happy Friday!

  6. This is my new favorite on you Lynne – I love the combination of yellow and that blazer is all sorts of fabulous! I can wear denim to work on Friday. I try to not abuse it too much.

Tux is hilarious! He reminds me of my Pippin – in fact, my Pippin's name was Tuxedo when we adopted her. She doesn't quite get that angry over food though, she pretty much always loves her food!

  7. Hee, at Tux. We have always fed our cats only one flavour of food. Don't like it? You will when you're hungry, cat.

We can wear denim on casual Fridays only. Yay!

  8. My office allows nice jeans on Fridays. The powers that be suggested we iron our jeans if we chose to wear them. Um yeah. I don't think the powers that be are really crazy about jeans day, but had to compromise a bit due to the very casual culture here in the Pacific NW.

Kitty cat looks MAD. My kitty isn't too pleased with her dinner offerings lately either. It's time for more salmon. 🙂

  9. Those yellow trews are punchy! Love them.

Jeans are allowed at work, although people that have external visitors, or travel to meetings (that includes me) rarely wear them. I wear black skinny jeans (like your yellow ones) cuffed with a smart top on quiet internal-only days, but Iprefer to save them for play!

  10. I fear Tux is saying a bad kitty swear word…
Love your mustard jeans and stripey jacket. Sorry you had an up-and-down kind of day, hope the weekend is better. Or at least calmer! xxx

  11. My office had dress down Fridays, but I noticed that it has been expanding, unofficially, to dress down week. I am kind of shocked at some of the things people wear into my office. I think one of the reasons that they are giving a blind eye is because we work in such a high pressure, deadline intensive environment (IP Law). Maybe they think we are more relaxed. I worked at another firm last year, where the dress code was 10,000 pages long. I went back to my old firm after 3 months for many reasons and one of the reasons happened to be that one of the Attorneys caught an attitude after I made a joke with him about allowing us to wear indigo, or black denim on dress down days. Personally, I didn't see what the big deal was, but you know I am low on the totem pole so I just try my best to comply.

  12. Hi I am a new reader! I used to be a legal assistant for many years but now am not working. When I worked in one law firm, they had a strict dress code and had casual Friday once a month (to start). Well, that was the beginning and the end of it. One woman came in with a backless shirt on and another looked like she had her pajama bottoms on. When you say "casual" to some people, it means anything goes. I don't really care what people wear but the boss surely wasn't having it. That was the end of casual Friday. It was supposed to work out where we would have it every Friday but never got past the first one! Ha! What can I say? I felt more comfy wearing the standard wardrobe for a conservative law firm because at least I knew that I was dressed appropriately and everyone else was too. No denim ever and no sneakers.

  13. Oh, I LOVE this! You look amazing and the color combo just rocks me. I have a very, very casual workplace. So, denim anything is a-okay. (Well, not a mini skirt or torn jeans.)
