Job Title:  Freelance Paralegal

Employer:  Me! I started my own business, Simplied Paralegal Solutions, LLC, in April 2011.

Years of Paralegal Experience:  4 1/2 years

Education/Degrees:  Associate of Applied Science – Paralegal Studies, Tarrant County College, Fort Worth, Texas; Currently working toward Bachelor of Science – Paralegal Studies, Texas Wesleyan University, Fort Worth, Texas, anticipated graduation date May 2012.

Specialty Areas:  I guess you could say family law since I work for three family law attorneys.

Career Highlight:  Starting my own business in April 2011.

Future Professional Goal(s): Graduate with a bachelor’s degree then…dum-dum-dum…I cross over to the other side and apply to law school!

Paralegal Practice Tip: Create your own personal forms bank. Also, if an attorney likes a pleading customized in a specific way, set it up once, and save as a template. This saves times and headaches!

Favorite Way to Deal with Work-Related Stress:  3-mile walks and singing.

Greatest Strength as a Legal Professional: That’s a tough one. I still feel like a student, so maybe my research skills.

Favorite Internet Resource(s):  I have a few I use regularly:

Favorite Social Media Site:  Probably Linkedin, www.linkedin.com, and my blog, Purple Paralegal, http://purpleparalegal.wordpress.com/ – LinkedIn because I am meeting and connecting with some fabulous paralegals, and my blog because it’s a fun way to share stories both legal and non-legal related.

Fun Fact:  I took professional dance lessons for about 9 years and did everything from tap, ballet, jazz, clogging (so much fun!), contemporary, and musical-comedy. Originally, I wanted to open my own dance studio and teach dance.

Last Book You Read:  I’ve got three books started at the moment:   The Great Texas Murder Trials, Texas v. Davis, Small Gods (part of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. The first two are for my forensic science oral presentation. The last one is just for fun.

Cat or Dog Person: Both, but more of a dog person. Pics can be found at http://purpleparalegal.wordpress.com/the-staff/.

Recipe Your Family Begs You to Cook:  Um, I don’t really cook. My husband is the cook in the family. But I love any pasta dish he makes.

One Gadget You Can’t Live Without:  Probably my HTC Inspire smart phone.

Favorite Quote:  An oldie but a goodie, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Paralegal/Legal Association Membership(s):  Fort Worth Paralegal Association, http://fwpa.org/; State Bar of Texas – Paralegal Division, http://txpd.org/default.asp
