Job Title:  Paralegal

Employer:  Muirhead, Gaylor, Steves & Waskom, LLP; Sarasota, FL

Education/Degrees:  Paralegal courses at State College of Florida

Specialty Areas:  Estate Planning and Probate

Career Highlights: I guess it would have to be the upcoming article in Paralegal Today, and hitting your site, too!!! WOW!

Future Professional Goal: I will be going into semi-retirement January 1, 2012 – then I can write to my heart’s content!

Paralegal Practice Tip: Being a paralegal is a lot like being a waiter or waitress – polish your people skills and your grammar.

Writing Tip:  Paralegals are all “scribes” – use your writing skills outside of the office to record memoirs for future generations of your family and to entertain. It’s fun and it’s exciting!

Favorite Way to Deal with Work-Related Stress:  An evening glass of Pino Grigio!

Greatest Strength as a Legal Professional:  I am a self-starter, nosey (I want to know ALL the details), and I am very deadline-oriented.

Favorite Internet Resource:  http://www.irs.gov/

Favorite Legal Software:  ACT by Symantic is a fabulous database we use as our calendar and to merge documents with Word templates we have created.

Favorite Social Media Site:  Facebook – it’s the only one I know! (You can “Like” Jane at her Facebook page for her book, http://www.facebook.com/AMatterOfPride.)

Fun Fact:  I’m MUCH less serious than I appear.

Last Book You Read:  Heaven is for Real

Cat or Dog Person:  My cat is a big orange tabby named “Valentino”.

Recipe Your Family Begs You to Cook:  Spaghetti – I put red wine in the sauce.

One Gadget You Can’t Live Without:  Coffee Pot

Favorite Quote:  “It’s only money – we’ll make more.” (I invented that quote!)

Paralegal/Legal Association Memberships:  NALA, Sarasota-Manatee Association of Legal Support Specialists (SMALSS). I have also served on the State College of Florida Paralegal Advisory Board and the Sarasota County Technical Institute Legal Studies Advisory Board for many years.
