The Blog Formerly Known As Practical Paralegalism
Job Title: Paralegal/Legal Assistant
Employer: Clyne & Associates, P.A., Coral Gables, FL
Years of Paralegal Experience: 9
Education/Degrees: I started paralegal school, but haven’t yet completed all the classes (too expensive for me right now!)
Specialty Areas: Civil Litigation – Insurance Defense (e.g., auto accidents, premises liability, product liability, etc.); Plaintiff mass toxic tort cases
Career Highlight: Erin Brokovichin’ it. I came from a purely insurance defense background, and my current employer hired me to do nothing but toxic tort plaintiff work! I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it, but now I find that I love it!
Future Professional Goal: To combine my paralegal skills with some IT services, and create my own customized virtual business.
Paralegal Practice Tip: Stay organized, and don’t let yourself feel overwhelmed. One task at a time, one hour at a time. That’s my mantra.
Favorite Way to Deal with Work-Related Stress: I like to do the newspaper puzzle page during my lunch hour. Crosswords, Sudoku, Scrabble – they all help to clear my mind!
Greatest Strength as a Legal Professional: I am EXTREMELY detail-oriented, which means I know where everything is at any given moment.
Favorite Internet Resource: Anything that lets me do free searches on individuals. http://www.sunbiz.org/ is a favorite. Clerks’ websites in the Tri-County area also tend to be utilized often. My local ones include searches for traffic citations, marriage licenses, civil or criminal cases, recorded documents, property appraiser records, etc. You’d be amazed what you can find out about somebody for free!
Favorite Legal Software: Time Matters from LexisNexis
Favorite Social Media Site: Probably Facebook, although I’m really starting to enjoy LinkedIn.
Fun Fact: I’m left-handed but I use scissors with my right hand! And my original major in college was fine art/photography.
Last Book You Read: Under the Dome by Stephen King
Cat or Dog Person: Both! See pictures below.

Recipe Your Family Begs You to Cook: Stuffed tomatoes with basil, garlic, and topped with mozzarella cheese. I have to admit, they’re delish!
One Gadget You Can’t Life Without: My iPod. I need a soundtrack to my life, and music actually really helps me be more productive.
Favorite Quote: “I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.'” ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Paralegal/Legal Association Memberships: N/A. I just missed the opportunity to be grandfathered into the Florida Registered Paralegal Program. (I was saving to buy a house and didn’t want to spend the extra cash.) I’m hoping to finish the classes to get my paralegal certificate next year. I’m technically already doing paralegal work, but I just don’t have the “official” title yet.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Patricia, for the great profile! Seriously, these are the highlight of my week. Y’all know I don’t ask you for much, you know, like money, but if you’re a legal staffer, I would love to ask you for a profile (see the easy-peasy questionnaire at the top of this blog).
