Visible Monday and Beachin’ It

Visible Monday and Beachin’ It

I decided not to title this post “Paralegal Career Dressing” because I’m not dressed for the office in any of these pics. But I am decidedly visible for Not Yet Dead Style’s Visible Monday in my Lollipop Red Nine West Vintage America Jeans, scored for $15 after discounts and coupons at Steinmart.

All of these pics are from a terrific beach getaway this weekend with Dear Hubby, The Corginator, and The Boyfriend Dog – our first vacay without children since, well, 2004. I give it a 12 on a scale of 1-10 πŸ™‚ We’re lucky to live a half a day’s drive from beautiful beaches.

I tend to pack light and re-mix the items in my suitcase. These pics include my beloved $4 thrifted Levi Strauss denim jacket, my $2.99 scarf from the Rugged Wearhouse, and the Rocket Dog sneakers The Teen outgrew. They also include another of my fave wad up and throw in the suitcase maxi dresses. I’d be interested to hear from any of you if it’s possible to style it for work, without looking like giant Hawaiian tube sock πŸ™‚ I’m thinkin’ not…

Nine West Vintage America Jeans (Steinmart); Old Navy v-neck tee (very old); scarf (Rugged Wearhouse $2.99); Rocket Dog sneakers (hand-me-downs from kiddos);  Belt (thrifted); No-name red sunglasses (scored from street vendor for cheap when I forgot mine earlier this year)

It’s the beach, where there is absolutely nothing I can do ’bout the hair. Brushing it is pointless. It was also cold when all of these pics were snapped. (Dear Hubby would insert that I think anything below 80 degrees is cold.)

I wish I could say thermal underwear was in this pic πŸ™‚

I got photo-bombed by The Corginator. Those pics are the best!

Levi Strauss denim jacket (thrifted); Maxi dress (Ross Dress for Less); Beaded necklace with multi-colored rhinestone flower (thrifted – will get close-ups soon, it’s way fun)

My fave activity on a paralegal getaway is hangin’ on the beach with the four-legged kids and Dear Hubby.

Coral tee-shirt (old Rugged Wearhouse @$4.99); Broom skirt (forever [not as in 21], perfect for suitcase wadding).

What am I hiding behind my back? Carrying the puppy-poo bag on the beach always reminds me of that scene from Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris, where his French barber Pascal can’t figure out why an American movie star, Jodie Foster, has been photographed walking on a beach – carrying a plastic bag full of dog feces. I guess I shouldn’t have hidden it behind my back. I could have been mistaken for an American movie star πŸ˜›

So how do you pack for weekend getaways? Small bag with lots of re-mixable separates, or large bag full of extras in case you change your mind – a lot?

  1. You won't believe it, but when I pack for a lake weekend, everything goes in one of those plastic grocery bags! It's jeans and tees and sneakers.

How wonderful to have a vacay without the kids! But even better to have a teen daughter to "inherit" things from. That's where I get all my jeans! I just love your red jeans!!

  2. Sorry I was blinded by your doggies' cuteness for a moment there. I love the bright red pants, and think they're fabulous. I don't know about styling the floral print dress, but I can totally see the maxi skirt paired with a crisp oxford shirt and metal jewelry.

  3. How cute you are! So glad you got a chance to go kidless!!! I love both of your maxis they happen to be one of my many weakness! If you have time stop by my link up your colors would be perfect for trending link up all about brights!

  4. Love the red jeans! So awesome. I like the maxi dress and the long blue skirt too.

Hee, when pets photobomb – my favourite thing too.

I pack really minimally and I leave ratty stuff behind, lol.

  5. You're always so funny!
Your beach outfits are ALL great!! Love the red pants! I'm loving the brights right now. Just makes me happy.
    Your fur-kids are the best!!

  6. Oh my goodness I adore that first look so much! I would totally wear it to the office, but with heels instead of tennies. It is super cute and I love that scarf!

  7. great vacay outfits, very relaxed and laid back chic. So nice to go on vacay without the kids…we have yet to do that…I am tickled that you brought along the doggies instead of the kids…and I must say they are super adorable. The kind that makes my heart melt.

  8. Oooh I do like the results of your compact weekend away packing – wow, a weekend away, forgotten what that is! I must admit I am completely hooked on travel packing lists and generally frittering away any "me" time to think of items that will "go" together – it's fun (well I think so!).I love the pic of you in your maxi and on the beach with those CUTE pooches:)) xoxo

  9. Thank you sooooooooooo much for your visit, and comment. Love, love you in that flowery dress.
How can I follow your blog. You havenΒ΄t got a google follow gadget???

  10. You're so cute!! I absolutely love outfit #1 with that white tee and red belt. It's adorable!

I love beach vaycays. I usually overpack though. =) On my next trip, I'm determined to use my remixing skills. lol

  11. Oh, how cute! I adore those last 2 looks, even though I'm not usually a big fan of maxi lengths. I love how you've styled them.

I enjoy the challenge of trying to pack lightly, re-mixing my items, but I'm not always able to do it. I just returned from a 4-day conference — professional in nature, weather uncertain — and wound up taking an absurdly large suitcase! Oh well….

  12. @Terri ~ Love the grocery bag for packing. That will definitely prevent overkill πŸ˜€ I jumped up and down when The Teen said she couldn't fit the floral Rocket Dogs any more…lol.

@Megan Mae ~ I broke the number one rule of style blogging. Do not let your pets steal the blog πŸ˜€

@Tammy ~ Maxis are a woman's best friend. Will definitely check out your blog. Thanks for introducing yourself.

@Keely ~ My first pair of red pants! At age 49!

@Sheila ~ I noticed you shedding items on your Vancouver trip – but adding new Fluevogs πŸ˜€ That's showin' the rest of us how it's done!

@Patti ~ You know Visible Monday is the only reason I even tolerate Mondays πŸ™‚

    @Gracefully50 ~ You've inspired me. I'm sneakin' skinny jeans to work, soon…

@Frannie ~ Thanks. Now that you mention it, I'm totally finding a way to get these pants to work πŸ˜€

@Mongs ~ Thank you for stopping by. I love your blog. I love my kids, too, but they're teens now, and their idea of a vacay is much louder than mine these days.

@Desiree ~ I will confess that I pack lighter as I age. HATE pulling heavy suitcases. I try to compensate with more accessories. They're light πŸ™‚

@SACRAMENTO ~ My Google follow is probably way down my blog. I will move it up. I use the free Google RSS feed reader to keep up with all my blogs, including yours.

@Shybiker ! "Color"! exactly. Big steps for this formally monochromatic owner of six black skirts lady ;P

@Tiffany ~ If you pack light, you can sneak more new stuff home…lol.

@Anne ~ I've always loved maxis. You won't believe this, but I do not own a single pair of shorts.
