“When I first met Toby I thought, ‘Wow!’ He is 6ft 5in, dark-haired and blue-eyed with lovely broad muscular shoulders. He looked even better than he did in his photos. We hugged and looked at each other for a while. I was quite overwhelmed and when he kissed me it felt very right.” ~ UK legal secretary Frances Benning describes her first meeting with the baby daddy she picked out online.
All I’ve ever had delivered from online sites are clothes and electronic gadgets. Benning’s pending delivery of her baby girl comes via a website that matches would-be moms with sperm donors.

Benning’s biological clock didn’t have time to wait for Mr. Right. She didn’t want to undergo the stress associated with IVF, and she wanted to actually meet the father of her child, even though she had every intention of being a single mom.
But the baby daddy she chose, tall, handsome and personable, turned out to be someone she could imagine spending her life and raising a family with. He and Benning fell in love and enjoyed a four-month romance that she hoped would last forever.
It turns out he isn’t as ready for family life as she is. Despite her disappointment, Benning is still pleased with the path she chose to become a parent:
Today little is certain, but Frances remains resolutely philosophical; both about her contentious decision to sleep with her sperm donor, and about her single parent status.
‘I feel I’ve no right to moan. I chose a donor because I’d decided to go it alone,’ she says with irrefutable logic. ‘I’m pregnant with a baby girl I already love. So, in the end, I guess I’ve achieved exactly what I set out to do.’
You go, girl, and best wishes for the future arrival of the most wonderful bundle of joy you could ever imagine.
