The North Carolina Paralegal Association (NCPA) is collecting teddy bears for the North Carolina Highway Patrol’s Teddy Bear Drive. The bears will be donated to children staying at battered women’s shelters. Teddy bears can be any size, and be new or gently used. NCPA will have a box to collect bears at its Annual Meeting & Seminar in Raleigh on March 24 – March 26, 2011.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol has also collected teddy bears for needy children at Christmas, and to give to children who are victims of motor vehicle collisions and other traumatic events.

I’ve seen a number of paralegal and bar associations organize collection drives to take place simultaneously with meetings and CLEs. Items collected have ranged from winter coats for needy children, canned food for community food pantries, and books for area reading programs. These are great ideas for paralegal service projects that can be successfully undertaken by most groups, regardless of size or budget.
