Paralegal & Blogger Profile: Karen Jessop

Karen hates her hair. I’m just plain jealous of it.

Job Title:  Senior Paralegal

Employer: Electronic Arts Inc., Redwood City, CA

Years of Paralegal Experience: 18

Education/Degrees: B.A. History (Cal State East Bay); Paralegal Certificate (Cal State East Bay Extension)

Specialty Areas: Intellectual Property

Career Highlight: Working at EA. Not only do I work with the best legal team ever but I get to wear jeans to work every day.

Paralegal Practice Tip: Proofread by turning the document upside down. Seriously! You catch those sneaky things you normally wouldn’t see.

Favorite Internet Resource: Everything you ever wanted to know about copyrights is right here:  www.copyright.gov  Also, when I’m bored I like to search the database for copyrights owned by my favorite authors. Oh gosh, did I just admit that in public?

Fun Fact:  My husband and I roller skate twice a week. It’s so fun you don’t even realize you’re exercising.

Favorite Book:  My all time favorite book is Simple Abundance by Sara Ban Breathnach. If you haven’t read this life-changing book, you must!  Most recently, thanks to Lynne and Vicki’s fantastic interview on The Paralegal Voice, I’ve been enjoying Sue Ann Jaffarian’s Odelia Grey books, a delightful mystery series written about and by a paralegal!

Cat or Dog Person: I have a cat named Mrs. B who was named after a co-worker and fellow paralegal.

Recipe Your Family Begs You to Cook: Hockey Puck Burgers. Form ground turkey into patties and place on pre-heated George Foreman Grill. Watch episode of Friends. Place charred patty on large plate and serve to husband. Put on shoes and warm up car while husband screams. Drive husband to Chilis. Order glass of wine at bar.

One Gadget You Can’t Live Without: I love my little MSI Wind netbook. It’s the size of a magazine and perfect for travel and writing blog posts in the car while I wait for my husband to get off work.

Favorite Quote: “Anybody who is one with what he or she does is building the new earth.” ~ Eckhart Tolle
